Degrees of Abstraction Series

Atmospheric and expressive oil paintings shaped by light, tone, and movement.

Semi-abstract and abstract works shaped by tonal movement, balance, and transitions of light. The emphasis is on structure and presence, encouraging sustained engagement without visual insistence.

This series explores the natural progression from representation to abstraction — a journey that mirrors how the mind interprets reality. Starting from the visible world, forms gradually loosen, colours shift away from expectation, and textures assert themselves as essential compositional elements. These works invite the viewer to engage more actively in interpretation.

Abstract paintings, when taken seriously, are never arbitrary. Each work begins with a coherent visual concept — whether a rhythm, a tonal relationship, a structural tension, or an emotional premise. I often begin with the faintest reference to landscape or architecture, then reduce, simplify, or re-order elements until the painting achieves its own internal logic. In these works, a single vertical, a muted field of colour, or a concentrated focal point may carry the entire emotional weight of the composition.

These paintings are designed for spaces that value focus: homes, studios, offices, or boardrooms where clarity and emotional balance matter.
